HP Output Server

HP Output Server software is the foundation of every HP Output Management Solution. It provides reliable delivery of business-critical documents across the enterprise to output destinations such as print, fax, e-mail, Web, FTP, and wireless device. HP Output Server gives IT managers and users:

  • Centralized management for tracking and controlling output jobs
  • Real-time notification of device malfunctions or job interruptions
  • New ways to streamline business processes
  • A simpler process for incorporating new output destinations

Delivery manager

  • Enables enterprise-wide management, providing a single route to all output devices
  • Receives output intelligently from a variety of client sources
  • Routes all requests across the WAN or LAN to the appropriate output queues
  • Supports distribution lists for broadcast delivery

Job and queue manager

  • Converts job formats such as PCL 5, PostScript, TIFF, and others automatically
  • Maintains both queues and the jobs they contain until the target output device is ready
  • Enables a single manager to control different types of queues (print, fax, Web), as well as multiple devices within each queue
  • Allows operators to check delivery authorizations and set queue policy

Destination manager

  • Automatically converts job formats such as PCL 5, PostScript, TIFF, and others
  • Recognizes the format of an incoming job
  • Converts an incoming job to a format the receiving output destination recognizes

Event manager

  • Tracks both job status events and output destination status events

  • Simplifies administration by maintaining an inventory of all output resources and their related usage statistics

Flexible operating environment

  • Works with multiple applications at the same time
  • Offers customization interface for capture of documents from any application

  • Provides support for the most current and supported Server operating systems including: HP-UX, IBM AIX, Sun Solaris, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, SuSe Linux from Novell, Windows 2000 and 2003 Server.

  • HP certifies and provides certified device configuration for appropriate HP print devices shortly after a print device becomes generally available to the market.
  • Certified device configurations for selected non-HP print devices are provided by HP at the manufacturer's request utilizing the HP Device Certification Program.
  • Device templates and device capabilities tickets are provided for HP printers that meet specific certification requirements to help assure HP devices provide reliable printing using features such as checkpointing and other capabilities.
  • Other manufacturers of print devices may choose to participate in the HP Output Server device certification program. These manufacturers then identify specific printers for certification. These device templates and device capabilities tickets are provided when requested by the printer manufacturer.
  • Certified device configuration for selected non-HP print devices are provided by HP at the manufacturer's request utilizing the HP Device Certification Program.
