Howard Reig

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Howard Reig is a retired television announcer. He was a staff announcer for General Electric starting in 1943, and the National Broadcasting Company from 1952 to 2005. He is most well-known for being the voice of "This is NBC Nightly News" at the beginning of NBC's evening news program.

Although his announcement was to be effective in May 2005, his voice can still be heard prior to the Nightly News broadcasts. It can be assumed that the standard intro was recorded prior to his retirement:

"From NBC News world headquarters in New York, this is NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams."

But occasionally, there are substitutions (most often Campbell Brown for Brian Williams and Lester Holt for John Seigenthaler) and special intros (Hurricanes Rita and Katrina, the funeral of Pope John Paul II, Brian Williams reporting from New Orleans, etc.) for the Nightly News. And Mr. Reig, who had for decades been on duty at the NBC studios in New York, moved to Florida after his retirement to live closer to his children and grandchildren. So, in an effort to showcase his talents as well as provide continuity to the broadcast, NBC has asked Mr. Reig to come into the WTVJ studio in Miami to record the odd Nightly News announcements.
