[edit] Current events

Currently, Howard High School is under renovation. The 2005–2006 school year opened with a new music/drama wing partially ready for use, a new front entrance, and a temporary cafeteria located in a space that will eventually become the auxiliary gym. In November 2005, the new administrative wing and main office opened. In December 2005, the auditorium opened with the winter concert, play and dance performance. During the summer of 2006, the media center moved into the temporary cafeteria and renovation started with an expected completion date of January 2007. The new cafeteria with a multi-story open atrium and new instructional wing were ready for start of the 2006-2007 school year.

As each phase of this three-year project is completed, Howard High School embraces the changes with a respect for its history and tradition. A Lion maintains its place of honor in the front lobby, a symbol of the schools commitment to graduating civic-minded students of character.

[edit] Schedule

Like all other Howard County high schools, Howard High has a yearlong schedule that provides students with the opportunity to earn seven credits. Prior to Fall 2002, Howard high was unique in the county in that it used a semester schedule. Students attended four ninety minute classes each day from august to winter break and then four new classes from their return until summer break.
