Howard County General Hospital is a non-profit hospital affiliated with Baltimore's Johns Hopkins Hospital and located in Columbia, Maryland, at the intersection of Cedar Lane and Little Patuxent Parkway, in the Village of Hickory Ridge. It serves as the primary medical facility for Howard County, Maryland. Founded in 1973 as a local, 59-bed facility, Howard County General has since grown to house 182 beds and specializes in women's and children's services, surgery, cardiology, oncology, orthopedics, gerontology, psychiatry, emergency services, and community health education.
In early August 2005, the hospital announced a $73 million project to add a four-story patient tower, add a 564-space parking garage, and replace two operating rooms and the outpatient center with larger, state-of-the-art facilities by the end of the decade. The plan is awaiting approval from the state of Maryland.
