Talk:House of Commons (Removal of Clergy Disqualification) Act 2001

[edit] Paisley
So howcome the Rev Ian Paisley could sit?
- Good question. The explanatory note accompanying the act appears to indicate that the disqualification applied only to clergy ordained by a bishop, which Paisley, as a Presbyterian, presumably was not. That's my best guess on this issue. 86.136.0.145 20:54, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Devolved legislatures
Reference to removal of disqualification from Scottish Parliament and Welsh Assembly and Northern Ireland Assembly is incorrect. Section 16(1)(b) of the Scotland Act 1998 already provided that a person is not disqualified from membership of the Parliament "merely because .. he has been ordained or is a minister of any religious denomination." . Similar provision in section 13(1)(b) of the Government of Wales Act 1998 and 36(6)(b) of the Northern Ireland Act 1998--George Burgess 20:33, 19 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] McDonagh
In what sense was Siobhain McDonagh ever David Cairns's boss? Have I missed something here? 86.136.0.145 20:54, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- The David Cairns article you linked to says that he was her research assistant before he became an MP. As he was her assistant, this would logically have made her David's boss. Road Wizard 21:04, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
- Ah, thanks, not sure how I missed that. 86.136.0.145 12:17, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
