Source unknown, but the image is certainly pre-1920, and probably older than that. The image was received from Hunter Augustus of the University Of Miami's Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science, with the comment "Yes it's in the public domain - it would be nice to mention the source but that's up to you. Use it in good health. I do not know the background."
