This image shows the first step of the Hough transform, for three points and with 6 possible angle groupings.

The leftmost image shows the first point being transformed. First, lines of different angles are plotted, all going through the first point. These are shown as solid lines. Second, for each solid line, the perpendicular which also bisects the origin is found. These are shown as dashed lines. The length and angle of the dashed line are then found. The values are shown in the table below the diagram.

This is repeated for each of the three points being transformed.

The results are then plotted as a graph, sometimes known as a hough space plot. Instructions are continued in Image:Hough_space_plot_example.png
