House of Bentinck

Bentinck is the surname of a prominent family belonging to the Dutch and British nobility.

Originally from the Netherlands, one branch was founded by Hans Willem Bentinck, 1st Earl of Portland. This British branch were initially given the title of Earl of Portland, later on the title of Duke of Portland.

The family estate since the 16th century, Schoonheten, is situated between the villages Heeten and Raalte in Overijssel, the Netherlands. The surface contains 500 ha of forests and cultivated land. Nowadays, the Bentincks earn their living by forestry, agriculture and renting holiday houses.
