Houlle

Houlle is a commune of France, in the département of Pas-de-Calais, in the arrondissement of Saint-Omer, and the canton of Saint-Omer-nord. It belongs to the agglomeration of Saint-Omer which includes 19 communes, with a total of 65,000 inhabitants.

Its postal code is 62910.

Population (1999): 934 inhabitants.

Spirits from grain, flavoured with berries of the juniper tree, are distilled in Houlle, the Genièvre (juniper) of Houlle. This is drunk with the local speciality (potjevleesch) and is used to refine Maroilles cheese.

"The Houlle" is also the name of a small river close to the village, tributary of the Aa, included in the water management plan (fr:SAGE) of the Audomarois region.
