Hou Yifan

- This is a Chinese name; the family name is Hou.
Hou Yifan (Chinese: 侯逸凡; pinyin: Hóu Yìfán, born February 27, 1994) of China, is a chess Woman Grandmaster. She was born in Jiangsu, but resides in Beijing (as of 2006). She started playing chess at the age of 6, and was accepted to the National Chess Centre in Beijing. Her coach is Chinese grandmaster Ye Jiangchuan. In the July 2006 FIDE rating list she was rated 2488 (+ 190 points in three months), making her the eighth highest rated female player, and the second highest rated girl, in the world; now (April 2007) her rating is 2513, the sixth highest rating for female players in the world.

- First place at the World Youth Championships in 2003 (Girls under 10 section)
- Third place (tied for first) at the World Youth Championships in 2004 (Boys under 10 section)
- Fifth place (tied for fourth) at the 3 Arrows Cup 2005 ladies tournament in Jinan, China, with a perfomance rating of 2504.
- Reached the third round (round of 16) of the Women's World Chess Championship in 2006
- Scored 11.0 out of 13 games (all played on third board) at the 37th Chess Olympiad in Turin, Italy, achieving a perfomance rating of 2596.
- Second place at the World Junior Championship (Girls) in 2006.
- Fifth place at the Corus Chess Tournament group C in 2007.
