Having read this history of the Hotel Europe in Gastown, I am doubting the information regarding the ground floor having housed a beer parlour and the underground area having housed a large barber shop. All other sources refer to the underground area as having once being a speakeasy (i.e., saloon). Separate sources indicate that the ground floor commercial premises was a restaurant before it was the poster shop of today. While a barbershop may have been situated in the building, I have not come across any other evidence of it. Considering the hidden aspect of the underground area, a speakeasy seems to have been more likely. Further information / research is needed. --Gmansfield 22:39, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
