A hot plate is a small electric stove often used in a laboratory setting to heat glassware. Some hotplates also contain a magnetic stirrer, allowing the heated liquid to be stirred simultaneously.

Hot plates are also used in food preparation, generally for small dishes in places where a full kitchen stove would not be convenient.
