HotFrog

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

HotFrog is the brand associated with number of country based business directories created by Reed Business Information. HotFrog was conceived by Philip Robinson an employee of Reed Business Information Australia in January 2005.

Traditionally Reed Business Information is a B2B (business to business) based publisher but HotFrog contains any business that legally can be advertised in that country to a general audience. For example prescription drugs can not be advertised in Australia and sex advertising may not be applicable to a general audience.

HotFrog uses a folksonomy to categorize companies rather than the traditionally used taxonomy. Folksonomies allows companies listing themselves to categorize themselves as they wish and allows HotFrog to grow with its users. A tag cloud can be seen on the HotFrog home page which often comes alongside folksonomy based information.

Listing on HotFrog is free.

HotFrog Australia moved into the local search market in May 2006 in partnership with Map Data Sciences Pty Ltd an Australian based supplier of mapping solutions.

In February 2007 HotFrog Australia partnered with Google Maps Australia as a content provider for the Google maps service launched in the same month.
