Hossein Ka'abi (also spelled Kaebi, Persian: حسين كعبى ‎ , born September 23, 1985 in Ahvaz, Khuzestan, Iran) is an Iranian football player who currently plays for Persepolis F.C. in Iran's Premier Football League and the Iran national football team. He is an Iranian Arab, and a member of the famous al-Ka'abi family who were prominent aristocrats in the city of Khorramshahr before the Iran-Iraq War.[citation needed]

[edit] Club career

Kaebi started his football in Esteghlal Javan (youngsters division) before moving to Foolad FC. It was in this club that the Croatian coach Vinko Begović quickly discovered this talented player and soon he was in the first team line-up despite his tender young age. He was selected for the U17 team that performed well in Asian Youth Championship. He was also selected for the national team soon after the Asian Championship.

Some analysts say he is destined to be one of the best players in the team continentally and internationally in the near future. The only shadow of doubt is the source of worry for his coaches, his bad temperament. He has been shown the red card on many occasions and his fierce and temperamental attitude could spell a big doubt on his undoubted ability to excel on the highest level. He disappointed many when he signed for UAE club Al-Emarat.

Kaebi signed a contract with Persepolis FC on February 25, 2007 on a 6-month deal.

[edit] International career

Kaabi won his first cap having just turned 16, and the almost half-century of caps that he has won since is a testament to the unbelievable talent of this prodigiously gifted 20-year old wonderkid. An attacking midfielder for his club team, in the national team he plays right wing-back and is well known for his devastating runs scything the opponents defence, and inconceivable tricks on the ball.

He is, however, very slight and often falls over. Despite being fiery in defense and tackling with gusto, there are doubts as to whether he can muscle up to the strongest players in countries such as England or Germany, but international interest in him has already been rumoured and will only be enforced as he shows his skills to the world in other international matches.

In 2004, Kaebi was named amongst World Soccer Magazine's Top 10 most promising players.

Kaabi played exceptionally well for Iran in World Cup 2006. His most memorable performance coming against Portugal where he was able to 'clamp down' on both Cristiano Ronaldo and Luís Figo.
