Hortensia (orator)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hortensia was the daughter of the Roman consul and orator Quintus Hortensius. It is believed that she was the wife of Quintus Servilius Caepio (d. 67 BCE), brother of Servilia Caepionis. It is unclear whether she married again. In the year 42 BCE, she pleaded a case in front of the second triumvirate and succeeded in having a tax levied against Roman women partially remanded.
The story is found in three ancient sources: Valerius Maximus VIII.3, Appian's Bellum Civile IV.5.32-35, and I.1.6 of Quintilian's Institutio Oratoria.
