Horse blanket

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A horse blanket is a blanket that's intended for keeping a horse warm or otherwise protected from the elements. They are tailored to fit around a horse's body with straps crossing underneath, allowing the horse to move about freely without dislodging it.

Blankets are also used to keep the horse's hair short. If horses are kept in a lighted area for 16 hours a day, they will not grow a winter coat, of if their winter hair coat is clipped, they need a blanket to keep warm.

Another type of horse blanket, called a Cooler is a square blanket with ties that is draped over a horse that is hot and sweaty from a workout. It is kept on while the horse is being led by a groom and allows enough air circulation for the horse to dry, but prevents chills and drafts from causing problems for the horse
