Horry County Schools

Horry County Schools (HCS) is a public school district serving Horry County, South Carolina and is the third-largest school district in South Carolina. It serves over 36,000 students (as of Spring 2007) in 46 schools around the county in nine attendance areas. The district office is in Conway, South Carolina

Horry County Schools is recognized as being a technology-driven school district. It includes Internet capabilities in all classrooms, as well as growing wireless labs. The district has also began the use of the assessment program Measures of Academic Progress, a computerized test that shows instant results of progress in the classroom.

With the recent growth of the Myrtle Beach area (as well as Carolina Forest), the school district has grown very quickly within the past decade. Nineteen new schools have been built, and two new attendance areas have been added.
