A native of Derbyshire, Wass appeared in one match for Derbyshire against Glamorgan during the 1929 season, in which the Welsh club finished bottom of the County Championship. He appeared for Scotland eight times in total.

Wass was a right-handed batsman. He was also a keen footballer, who played for Chesterfield, Southport, Gainsborough Trinity and Chelmsford City, making over 400 football league appearances.
