Hopeware

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hopeware is an information technology (IT) term that broadly encompasses many software products. Frequently in the IT industry software is purchased to solve specific, although sometimes rather nebulous, problems. Also, frequently such software is unproven in the company making the acquisition, and is purchased based on the promises of salespeople, commercials seen on television, and/or articles in trade journals. Until the software is in place and proven to solve the problem, the IT staff hopes it will work. Hence the term "hopeware".
