Hope Town
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hope Town is one of the districts of the Bahamas, on the Abaco islands. Hopetown is a small village on Elbow Cay, located in Abaco. Golf carts are the main source of transportation, and most of the supplies for the area are brought in by barge each week.
[edit] Elbow Reef Light
Hope Town features one of the last operational oil-fueled lighthouses in the world. This lighthouse is striped red and white. It's light can be seen from 17 miles away.
[edit] Hurricanes
Probably Hope Town's most notable hurricane was Hurricane Floyd that hit Hope Town on September 14, 1999 as a Category 4 on the Saffir-Simpson scale.
The seat of the Hope Town District Council is in Hope Town, and most of the meetings are held there.
