The Honolulu Symphony is NOT the official orchestra of the City and County of Honolulu. You are confused with The Royal Hawaiian Band.

The writer of the above comment is correct; the Honolulu Symphony is NOT the official orchestra of the City and County of Honolulu. The Royal Hawaiian Band, founded by Henri Berger, is the official wind band of the City and County of Honolulu. Berger did not found the Honolulu Symphony; a group of music lovers (The Honolulu Symphony Society) founded it in 1902. The Honolulu Symphony has claimed for many years that is was established in 1900. There is no evidence of this in newspapers or other primary sources around 1900. -- Dale E.
