Hong Kong International Races

Hong Kong International Races (香港國際賽事) are the most prestigious horse races in Hong Kong. It consist of 4 races. The races are host by Hong Kong Jockey Club, and sponsored by Cathay Pacific Airways. The event is televised around the globe. The races are held annually in Sha Tin Racecourse in mid December.

Hong Kong International Races was originally called Hong Kong Invitation Cup when it was founded in 1989. Only horses from Singapore and Hong Kong were compete in the race. The winner was Flying Dancer, owned by Lim Por Yen and trained by Ping Chee Kan.
The race quickly gained attention, in 1989, Australia and New Zealand representatives joined the race. Started from 1994, horses from all over the world compete in the race.
In year 2006, Hong Kong International Races will be held on the 10th DEC at the Sha Tin Race Course. With horses from around the globe, the total prize money boast a whopping HKD62million.

Hong Kong Cup is the world’s richest turf race over 2000m, and the finale of the World Racing Championships.
[edit] Hong Kong Mile
Hong Kong Mile have a prize money of HK$14 million . The race debuted in 1991 to mark the staging of the 22nd Asian Racing Conference, and was run over 1400m. From 1999 it was renamed Hong Kong Mile and run over 1600m.

Hong Kong Vase was introduced in 1994. It run over 2400m and have proze money of HK$14 million.
Indigenous, former Hong Kong Horse of the Year, took the victory in 1999.

Hong Kong Sprint was debuted in 1999 and run over 1000m. It has a HK$10m purse, and is the world’s richest race over 1000m.
Silent Witness became back to back winner of Hong Kong Sprint in 2003 and 2004.
