Hong Kong Broadband Network (HKBN, Traditional Chinese: 香港寬頻網絡有限公司; Simplified Chinese: 香港宽频网络有限公司; pinyin: xiānggǎng kuānpín) is one of the most eminent fixed telecommunications network service provider in Hong Kong. It is the wholly-owned subsidiary of City Telecom (H.K.) Limited engages in the provision of broadband Internet access (1000Mbps, 200Mbps, 100Mbps, 50Mbps, 25Mbps & 10Mbps), telephony, IP-TV, mobile and corporate data services for residential and corporate market in Hong Kong.
HKBN built its own network infrastructure with Metro Ethernet IP technology, being the largest alternative end-to-end network in Hong Kong. Empowered by its backbone connected by fibre optic, it offers flexibility in bandwidth provision ranges from 10Mbps to 1000Mbps. Apart from Internet access service, HKBN began providing telephony and IP-TV services in Hong Kong in 2002 and 2003, respectively. It also provides off-net voice-over-IP (VoIP) service under the brandname "2b" (2nd generation) Broadband Phone.

Hong Kong Broadband Network was established in 1999. It is the wholly-owned subsidiary of City Telecom (H.K.) Limited ('CTI'), a telecommunications group established in 1992 by Ricky WONG Wai Kay (Traditional Chinese: 王維基; Simplified Chinese: 王维基; pinyin: wáng wéi jī), engaging in the provision of international telecommunications services.

In support of the launch of the super-high-speed broadband service bb1000, Liu Xiang, China's first male Olympic track and field gold medalist, was invited to feature in the company's branding campaign.
"The background of Liu Xiang [1] parallels our company development, with the theme 'dare to dream, dare to do and strike your best'. Liu's self-belief and persistence, as well as his 'I can do it' spirit, have delivered World Class breakthroughs from humble beginnings. We subscribe to Liu's philosophy of 'If I am not capable, I will not try, but if I can, why don't I seize the opportunity?' At HKBN, we strongly believe that the one who runs in front of oneself, is the one who writes history," said Ricky Wong, chairman of HKBN.
Recently, HKBN focuses on enhancing product and service quality, thus enabling its premium pricing strategy.
[edit] Broadband Internet service
HKBN allots 10 Mbps, 25 Mbps, 50Mbps, 100 Mbps, 200Mbps and 1000 Mbps of bi-directional transmission broadband Internet access services through a network made up of optical fibre and high grade Category 5 cables (CAT-5E). In June 2002, Hong Kong Broadband Network Limited built up the largest Metro Ethernet network in the world and confirmed by Cisco Systems. In October 2005, HKBN has become the first service provider in the world to achieve the Cisco Powered Network Metro Ethernet QoS Certified status. This IP network has already covered 65% of the market, that is, approximately 1.3 million families in Hong Kong in August 2006 and HKBN targets to expand its coverage to 1.8 million families.

Broadband telephone service is provided through the broadband network with a broadband phone box, which supports Internet access and telephone service at the same time.
- 2nd Generation Broadband Phone: This is a software package provided by HKBN. User can use this software to call their friends and families overseas. They can also use this software while they are connecting to the Internet. Moreover, this software provides various functions listed below:

[edit] Digital TV (IP-TV) Service
By deploying Internet Protocol (IP) technology with Metro Ethernet network platform, HKBN launched Digital TV ('HKBN Digital TV') service in August 2003.
- Positioning: HKBN Digital TV aims at the Chinese language market. Additionally, it attempts to provide pay-TV service at a price lower than the other pay-TV service providers. Apart from carrying non-local channels, it also carries local and self-produced channels, such as 24-hour news channel. It also offers near VOD (Video-on-Demand) and other interactive channels such as real-time stock quote, SMS, email, online TV shopping, mobile ringtone & wall paper downloading,etc.
- Channels provided: Since the time it was established, the number of channels increased from 11 to over 70, which include:

- Hong Kong Broadband Network News 24/7 Channel: The HKBN News 24/7 channel is a self-produced channel by HKBN which distributes local and non-local news 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Current Affairs Channel: The Current Affairs Channel provides both community information and current affairs. Every Wednesday, it broadcasts regular meetings of the Legislative Council and television programs produced by the Radio Television of Hong Kong (RTHK).
- Channel News Asia: This English news channel reports global news from an Asian viewpoint.
- Hong Kong Sports Channel: The Hong Kong Sports Channel is a combination of local sports news and competitions, including Inter-University and Inter-School competitions.

HKBN provides IDD0030 international calling service to both land-line and mobile phones. Free minutes are available to the International Call Forwarding Service or IDD service. In addition, the charge is based on 6-second increments. A complimentary Hong Kong ring tone is also available.

HKBN acquired a Fixed Telecommunications Network Services license in 2002. Since then, it became one of the major local fixed telecom network service providers offering broadband Internet access, telephony, IP-TV, mobile and corporate data services.
