"Honey, Honey" is ABBA's second single in 1974 and part of the Waterloo album.
[edit] The song
"Honey, Honey" was written by Björn Ulvaeus, Stig Anderson and Benny Andersson, with vocals by Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. The song was not only recorded in English but also in Swedish. This was the last official recording by ABBA in Swedish, and was the B-side of the Swedish "Waterloo" single. The English version of "Honey Honey" was released with "King Kong Song" on the B-side.
[edit] Chart Success
The single was released in several European countries and in the U.S., but not in the UK. Epic Records decided to release a remixed version of "Ring Ring" but this single stalled at number thirty-two. Instead a cover version of "Honey, Honey" by Sweet Dreams reached the top ten in the UK charts.
In Germany, the single managed to reach number two, while it hit number four in both Switzerland and Austria and reached the top twenty in the Netherlands.
In the USA the single was moderately successful compared to the group's later singles. It reached number twenty-seven on the Billboard Hot 100 and had the same peak on the Adult Contemporary chart, becoming the first ABBA single to reach the AC chart. Interestingly, ABBA's original "Honey, Honey" had to compete with Sweet Dreams' cover version in the US market; although the Sweet Dreams single peaked only at #68, it may have somewhat hindered the performance of ABBA's version on the American charts.
