"Home" is a song by American rock band Daughtry from their self titled debut album. It was finally confirmed as the second single off the album in a New York Times article.[1] The song has been climbing up the U.S. charts for a few weeks before the song was even announced as second single, and it has been able to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, so far climbing to number 48. A music video and radio release have also been confirmed. "Home" will be added to radio stations on April 10, 2007, and according to The New York Times, the"Home" video was filmed in downtown Greensboro on Mar 23.[2]
The song was written by Chris Daughtry himself. In the song Daughtry sings about being grateful for what he has, but feeling homesick from how the music industry keeps him away from home and his family. He states during the chorus "these faces and these places are getting old, so I'm going home." However, he wrote the song on the couch the day before he left for American Idol, possibly showing that he was imagining what it would be like to be a successful artist, and the consequences of it.
A poll was put on the band's website to determine the second single. Results showed that this song was second to "Over You." But since the song's use on the show as the vote-off song on the sixth season of American Idol, it has greatly spiked its popularity, and is most likely the reason the song has charted on some charts without even being released. It was determined that it was best to release it as the second single, while "Over You"'s lead may turn it into the third single.
