Homalocephale (from Greek homalos, "even", and kephalē, "head") was a 3m long herbivore from the pachycephalosaurid family which lived during the Late Cretaceous. The animal had a flat skull and was noted for its wide hips, some paleontologists think the wide hips were for giving birth to live young, others think it was to cushion impact. The unusual skull was probably to cushion impact during battles or defending itself against predators. It also had long legs which indicate that it could run fast. Homalocephale lived in what is now Mongolia 80 million years ago. The genus was described in 1974 by Osmólska & Maryanska.
