[edit] Famous Alums?

I'd like to see a longer list of famous alumnae. I want to add Ruth Hale (feminist). -- k72ndst 20:57, 02 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Traditions

I cut out VIKING Day and "Team Green" because they are not universal Hollins traditions, they are particular to a specific group. I think the "Traditions" category should remain well established university traditions - VIKING Day is under six years old an I haven't even heard of Team Green. - Current student, Class of '08

Why were the "traditions" deleted? Also I feel that since VIKING Day is probably the only tradition besides Tinker Scares where the whole campus participates it should be immateral how long it has exisited. Besides which it is part of the consitution of the Otaku that this occur, which makes it guarnteed for as long as Otaku exisits. Although I have never heard of "Team Green" either. - Lostcatholic, Class '07 66.225.69.254 18:34, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

I didn't understand why "Traditions" was deleted, so I restored it. If deleted again, please explain why it is innappropriate for this page. -RMJ12345

While restoring "Traditions", I added a couple of other traditions I think are important to Hollins right now - 100th night, Founder's Day, and Passing of the Robes. The last one isn't particularly well-established, but the other two are. -RMJ12345, class of 2008

Regarding VIKING Day and any other disputes on "traditions":

tra·di·tion, n. The passing down of elements of a culture from generation to generation, especially by oral communication.[1]

1. A mode of thought or behavior followed by a people continuously from generation to generation; a custom or usage.
2. A set of such customs and usages viewed as a coherent body of precedents influencing the present: followed family tradition in dress and manners. See Synonyms at heritage.
3. A body of unwritten religious precepts.
4. A time-honored practice or set of such practices.
See also [hollins traditions site].

VIKING Day does not fit into that definition. It is a charity event for a residence hall. Stick it under the residence hall section. BTW, RMJ good job on revising the traditions, they're much better written now.

Thanks! I changed the Viking Day as suggusted. 172.166.12.2 18:33, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Firsts

Uh, bravo to whoever put up the anti-Wiki buttons first. That's funny. ~RMJ

[edit] Residence Halls

I deleted Community Garden hall because they are not a hall this year (2006-2007).

[edit] History

Thanks to whoever deleted the line about admitting men...I don't know when that was added. -RMJ

[edit] Vandalism

Someone changed the infobox name to Top Hat University. I don't get it, but I changed it back.

[edit] Failed "good article" nomination

This article failed good article nomination. This is how the article, as of October 26, 2006, compares against the six good article criteria:

1. Well written?: A lot of it was well written. However there are a lot of lists through out the article. These need to be converted to prose.
2. Factually accurate?: While website references were provided, this should be in the <ref></ref> format. Templates such as {{Cite web}} can assist in this.
3. Broad in coverage?: A lot of information here. Cut down on the one paragraph sections and convert the lists to prose.
4. Neutral point of view?: Yeah most of it seemed good. Words such as calling Thomas Jefferson a figure need to be removed though.
5. Article stability? Looking at the history, since the 20th there has been a lot of edits. Not very stable at the moment.
6. Images?: Only one, the University badge. This needs licensing information. Perhaps some photos of the Uni or its students?

When these issues are addressed, the article can be resubmitted for consideration. Thanks for your work so far. --HamedogTalk|@ 13:33, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] NEFA Parties

Why is the Bo Rhap tradition allowed to remain, but streaking is repeatedly deleted? Thanks.Rmj12345 04:51, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Repetition in Article

There is a lot of repetition in the article when read from top to bottom. Things that are repeated are ADA, Freya, and club information. Cutting down on repetition will tighten the article. I can do some of it, but I am not a usual contributor and it might flow more smoothly if an original contributor (ehm, RMJ) did it.

  • Thanks, I'll work on it....sketchy. Rmj12345 23:09, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
