[edit] The History of original parich church

The original parish church in Fulnek, devoted to St. Philip and St. James, used to stand in place of today's St. Joseph chapel and by the left side the church aisle. Now it isn't known, when it was built, first documented at all was on February 26, 1293 in a letter from Sir Oldřich of Lichtenburk, descent of strong house of Ronovecs and the owner of Fulnek country, whereby sells to reeve Štědron from Jílovec for 10 stocks the reevehouse ibidem. Witnesses were i.a. Jerloch, parish priest of Jerlochovice and Mikuláš, parish priest of Děrné. From the letter we are getting, that Děrné and Jílovec were founded long time ago, Děrné and Jerlochovice used to have its own parishes, whilst Kujavy (Clementis villa) was founded by at that time living reeve Kliment.[1]

[edit] The Miracle Portrait of Helping Virgin Mary

In honorary place of Fulnek parish church, above the tabernacle on main altar, there is a miracle potrait of Helping Virgin Mary, also called Virgin Mary of Fulnek. Some time ago there was a table below with this label:

Translated in english:
“In the year 1648 October 1, there was a honourable young man Paulus Mudrack, 19 years old, shot innocently in the deer park. And then in the year 1649 March 3, left this world, having obtained the holy sacraments of the Christian-Catholic Church, Andreas Mudrack. He was 22 years 5 months old. In memory of them, grieved parents, Georg and Anna Mudracks, let made an epitaph. God give the peace and bliss to all christian souls amen.“

This mentioned epitaph is the picture of Helping Virgin Mary, that spouses Mudracks[2] in 1678 gived to parish church. First it was hanged next to baptismal font in the st. Joseph chapel in old parish church. Later it was taken from here and hanged between two church windows. Nor longer was here, in 1731 was moved again, had been replaced by picture of, at that time just blessed, st. Peter Fourier. The picture of Virgin Mary they used as a small altar picture and so it rest without a bigger interest up to 1746 – at that time it was on December 23 again moved, finally it came to cloister, because no other place for it was found; even after several weeks here the picture fell into three pieces. At last reverend Jakob Erbsmann, senior of local monastery, took care of it, and let it after reparation mount on monastery wall behind the church.[3] Devotee Christians gradually began to meet near it almost every day, they decorated the picture with flowers and honoured Godmother with prayers and songs. The devotion was still growing up, many of arrivals found consolation and help here.
