Holy Ascension Orthodox Church

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Located in Albion, Michigan, the parish is one of the oldest Orthodox Churches in Michigan. Founded 30 April 1916 by Russian immigrants, the parish's name was originally Русская Православная Церковь Вознесенія Господня (Russian Orthodox Ascension of Christ Church).

The community gradually grew from an ethnically Slavic community to draw in several American converts, which eventually lead to its transfer from the Orthodox Church of Russia to the Orthodox Church in America (OCA) in 1979.

The parish serves the local Orthodox Christian population and ministers to the students from the several nearby colleges and universities.

The parish is in the Diocese of the Midwest under His Eminence, Archbishop JOB. Nearby is St. Demetrius Orthodox Church in Blackman Township, also in the Midwest Diocese and to the north is the Holy Dormition Monastery in Rives.
