Holm of Papa
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Holm of Papa is a very small uninhabited island of the Orkney islands. This is a name found only on maps - it is known locally as the Papay Holm. It can be visited from its neighbouring island Papa Westray, or Papay, an island less than a hundred metres west of the Holm.
The main sight on the 1000 x 150 metre small island is the Southcairn, a 20 metre long chambered tomb dating from approx. 3500 BC, on whose stones one can find ancient carvings. Entry to the tomb is via a trapdoor in the roof. Small boat access to the Holm may be negotiated through the Co-op shop on Papa Westray.
