Hollywood Fats

Hollywood Fats (May 17, 1954- December 8, 1986) was born Michael Mann. He was given the nickname, Hollywood Fats by Buddy Guy. He began playing blues at the age of ten years. Later, he played with many of the greats: J.B. Hutto, Muddy Waters, Jimmy Witherspoon, Albert King, (all this by the age of eighteen!), Canned Heat and others. He was an accomplished blues guitarist; arguably the best of his generation. He played with his own band, Hollywood Fats Band in 1974 in southern California. The group was originally a trio including Fats on guitar, Al Blake on harmonica and vocals and Fred Kaplan on piano. He died of a heroin overdose in 1986.
