Hollansburg, Ohio

Hollansburg is a village in Darke County, Ohio, United States. The population was 214 at the 2000 census. It was the birthplace of John R. Commons, the institutional economist at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Hollansburg is located at 39°59′55″N, 84°47′32″W (39.998503, -84.792349)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²), all land.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 214 people, 86 households, and 62 families residing in the village. The population density was 688.5/km² (1,758.9/mi²). There were 96 housing units at an average density of 308.9/km² (789.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.13% White, and 1.87% from two or more races.

There were 86 households out of which 32.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.5% were married couples living together, 10.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.9% were non-families. 26.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 2.98.

In the village the population was spread out with 25.7% under the age of 18, 12.1% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 21.0% from 45 to 64, and 14.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 125.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 106.5 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $33,750, and the median income for a family was $36,111. Males had a median income of $28,125 versus $19,063 for females. The per capita income for the village was $13,317. About 3.1% of families and 4.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including none of those under the age of eighteen and 9.1% of those sixty five or over.
