Hofheim (officially known as Hofheim am Taunus ) is a Frankfurt suburb and the seat of the Main-Taunus district, in the south of Hesse. Population of the town in 2002 was 40,863; its geographical position is . The city was first mentioned in 1262 as Hoveheim.
The town is located at the south side of the Taunus mountains, 17 km west of downtown Frankfurt and 17 km east of downtowns Wiesbaden and Mainz.
Frankfurt is easily accessible with public transportation (Line S2, Stations in "Hofheim" and "Lorsbach") and via the A66 motorway. Extensive roadworks to widen the A66 are currently being carried out in the area of Hofheim, most notably at the exit for the neighbouring town of Hattersheim.
The town comprises the neighnorhoods Marxheim, Diedenbergen, Lorsbach, Langenhain (where the European Bahá'í House of Worship is located), Wallau and Wildsachsen. It is surrounded by forests and open fields. Hofheim is the most important city of the district Main-Taunus-Kreis and its administrative center ("Kreisstadt").
