Hobart Rangers Soccer club was a short lived soccer team which was formed out of the old Hydro SC team, that had represented the Hydro Electric Commission in the Southern Premier League from 1954 until 1957. Before World War II it had been commonplace for teams to represent companies, but this seems to have been discouraged in the post-war years. The Hydro team was re-branded as "Hobart Rangers" for the 1958 season, but only lasted for 9 seasons due to lack of support. The Rangers did however manage to win both the State Championship and Southern Premiership in 1962.

At the end of the 1967 season, the Hobart Rangers merged with Caledonians.

[edit] "Hydro SC" Years

Prior to their rebranding as Hobart Rangers for the 1958 season, the HEC had entered a team in the Southern Premier League under the company nickname "Hydro" from 1954 until 1957. Many of the players who played for the Hydro latered joined ethnically affiliated teams such as White Eagles which severely weakened Hydros teams, and therefore their chances of success. The Hydro team finished last in the Southern Premier League two years in a row in 1956, and 1957, and so it was decided to rebrand the team.
