HNoMS Valkyrien (1965-1977)

The KNM Valkyrien, a frigate of the Royal Norwegian Navy was purchased from the Royal Canadian Navy in 1956 and was named the KNM Garm until 1965.
She was launched as the River-class frigate HMCS Toronto with pennant number K538 on 25 November 1943 at Lauzon, Quebec, Canada. She served in World War II on anti-submarine operations in the North Atlantic. She was decommissioned from the Royal Canadian Navy on 27 November 1945, then recommissioned by that navy as a Prestonian class frigate with pennant number 319 on 26 November 1953, and decommissioned again on 14 April 1956.
Sold to Norway she was renamed Garm in 1956, then renamed Valkyrien in 1965 and served until 1977.
