What destroyer did Electra tow to Java?

According to T.J. Cain in his book HMS Electra, it was an I-class destroyer. I can not find anything about an I class destroyer being in that area at that time. Also, some time ago, I remember reading someplace (can't remember which book) that the ship that she towed was the destroyer Jupiter. I can not find anything in the history of any I-class destroyer that says that they were in the Singapore area at that time frame; and I can find nothing in the history of the Jupiter that says that it was the one towed at this time.

There was an article in The Sun that says that the old Australian destroyer Vendetta was towed to Java about this time. Is this the one referred to?

Does anybody have any information on this?

[edit] Grammar war?

There seems to be a grammar war on this page. In particular, 'signaling' vs. 'signalling'; and 'refueling' vs. 'refuelling'. When somebody changes it, somebody else changes it back. Pick one and stick with it. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 147.240.236.8 (talk) 21:18, 27 March 2007 (UTC).

Pick signalling and refuelling, as these are the British English, and this is a British-specific subject. Emoscopes Talk 21:27, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
