HMS St Vincent

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Four vessels and one shore establishment of the British Royal Navy have been named HMS St Vincent.

  • The first St Vincent was an 8-gun fireship captured from the French in 1692 and sold 1698.
  • The second St Vincent was the Spanish 14-gun sloop San Vicente, captured 1780 and sold 1783.
  • The fifth St Vincent was a boy/junior training establishment in Gosport from 1927 to 1966.

The name lives on in St Vincent College on the site of the fifth St Vincent (not to be confused with Saint Vincent College in the US).
