HMS Saltash (J62) was a Royal Navy Hunt class minesweeper which was launched 25 June 1918 and served through latter part of the World War I as well as through all of World War II. She was involved in the evacuation of Dunkirk, during which, on June 1, 1940 she sank HMS Havant (H32) after Havant had been heavily damaged by German aircraft. Saltash would later returned to northern France as part of the Normandy landings in 1944. Saltash was decommissioned on 13 March 1947.

HMS Saltash was armed with a 4-inch LA forward and a 12 pounder AA.

HMS Saltash was named after the town of Saltash in south-east Cornwall, United Kingdom.

[edit] Trivia

HMS Saltash Castle was the name of a fictitious Royal Navy Castle class corvette in the film version of The Cruel Sea (in the original novel the ship was a River class frigate called HMS Saltash). In The Cruel Sea (film) "Saltash" became "Saltash Castle" and was "played" by a Castle Class corvette, HMS "Porchester Castle" - pennant F362 as in the film.
