HMS Portchester Castle (K362)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
HMS Portchester Castle was a Castle-class corvette of the United Kingdom's Royal Navy, pennant number K362.
She was launched on 21 June 1943 at Swan Hunter shipyard in Newcastle upon Tyne and scrapped in May 1958 at Troon.
In World War II, as one of four ships in 30th Escort Group under the command of Denys Rayner, she shared in the sinking of U-1200 [1] south of Ireland on 11 November 1944, along with her sister ships Launceston Castle, Pevensey Castle and Kenilworth Castle.
In 1955 HMS Portchester Castle was employed to "play" the fictitious HMS Saltash Castle in the film The Cruel Sea where she is shown wearing her real pennant number, K362.
