The HMS Peterhead (J59) was a Bangor class minesweeper that was mined off Utah Beach in June, 1944. She was declared a complete and total loss, and scrapped in 1948. At the time of the D-Day operation she was commanded by Lt Cdr David Croom-Johnson RNVR, who was subsequently awarded the DSC for his work in command of Peterhead. Croom-Johnson was a barrister by trade who went on to become a High Court judge (presiding over the trial of Dennis Nielsen) and later an Appeal Court judge, before dying in 2000.
