HMS Leda (1800)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

HMS Leda, launched in 1800, was the lead ship of a successful class of 47 British Royal Navy sailing frigates. The Leda was copied from the French frigate Hebe, which was captured by the British in 1782. The Leda and her sisters carried 38 guns. Her first captain was George Johnstone Hope

HMS Shannon, the victor over the USS Chesapeake, off Boston, on June 1, 1813, was a sister ship to the Leda.

HMS Trincomalee and HMS Unicorn, two sailing frigates that have survived to the present day, are sister ships of the Leda. The last ship of the class was built in 1830.
