H.M.S. Hannibal was a 74-gun third-rate vessel, launched in 1796, and well known for being run aground and captured during the first part of the Battle of Algeciras on July 5, 1801.[1]. The French and Spanish were unable to repair her quickly enough to take part in the eventual defeat of the Franco-Spanish squadron several days later, and she served in the French navy for some time.
