HMS Gladiolus (K34) was the first of 225 Flower-class corvettes built during World War II. She was laid down at Smiths Dock on the River Tees in the United Kingdom, on October 19, 1939, launched on 24 January 1940, and commissioned on April 6, 1940.

Gladiolus was involved in the sinking of the Type I U-boat U-26 on July 1, 1940. She received partial credit for the sinking of U-556 southwest of Iceland on June 17, 1941. Gladiolus was torpedoed and sunk by U-558 on October 17, 1941, while escorting convoy SC-48. At the time, she was under the command of Lieutenant Commander H. M. C. Sanders.
