HMS Carinthia

HMS Carintha was originally a cruiser. It was laid down as a steam passenger ship servia completed as Carinthia for Cunard White Star Line Ltd, Liverpool in August 1939 requisitioned by the Royal Navy. In January 1940 it was commissioned as an armed merchant cruiser.

At 13.13 hours on June 6 1940, the HMS Carinthia on a northern patrol was torpedoed by a U-46 west of Galway Bay, Ireland in position 53°13′N 10°40′W. HMS Carinthia remained afloat, but two officers and two ratings died in the attack.
