HMS Argo was a 28-gun, Frigate of the Royal Navy. The ship was designed by Sir Thomas Slade based on the Lyme, “ with such alterations as may tend to the better stowing of men and carrying for guns.”
She served during the Seven Years War, at first blockading Dunkirk, before sailing for the far east to take part in the expedition against Manila. On the 31 October 1761 Argo and the Panther captured the Spanish Galleon Santisima Trinidad in a two hour action, loaded with treasure to the value of two million dollars.
