AWM Caption: Starboard broadside view of the Bathurst Class Minesweeper (Corvette) HMAS Ipswich. One of sixty of this of this class of ship, Ipswich was engaged on escort duties, minesweeping and anti-submarine patrols. She firstly served with the British Eastern Fleet before being attached to the Mediterranean Command. After service in the Mediterranean, Ipswich rejoined the British Eastern Fleet on 11 February 1944, Ipswich participated with two other ships in the sinking of the Japanese submarine R0110. At the end of 1944, she transferred to the British Pacific Fleet as a unit of the 22nd Minesweeping Flotilla. On 2 September 1945, Ipswich was with the Allied Fleet in Tokyo Bay when the Japanese surrender was signed before returning to Sydney and paying off.
