HMAS Toowoomba

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Two ships of the Royal Australian Navy have been named for the city of Toowoomba in Queensland.

The first HMAS Toowoomba J157/B251/A125 was a Bathurst class corvette, built by Walkers Limited at Maryborough in Queensland, launched on 26 March 1941 by Mrs. C. W. Lowther, wife of a long serving employee of the shipyard, and commissioned on 9 October 1941.

During her career, Towoomba was part of the British Eastern Fleet.

HMAS Toowoomba paid off on 5 July 1946, was transferred to the Royal Netherlands Navy and renamed Boeroe.
