H.M. Trawler ‘Force’ began her career as the Trawler “James Bucham”. she was built at the shipyards of Cochrane’s at Selby in Yorkshire in 1917. She had the shipyard number of No825. She was an armed trawler and she was built for the use of the Royal Navy. She had a 3 cylinder triple expansion engine which was built and supplied by C.D. Holmes of Hull. She was Launched on the 18th of September 1917. She was in the service if the Royal Navy for only five years after which she was sold on in 1922, to the City Steam Fishing Company Ltd from Hull. With her new owners came a new name. The City Steam Fishing Company re-named her the “Stoneferry”. She remained with that company for twelve years and then in 1934 she was sold and again re-named. Her new owners were the Hudson Fishing Company Ltd of Hull and she had become “Cape Tarifa”. she remained with this company until 1938 when she was then sold to the Polish Copany, Towarzystwo Dalekomorskiz Polowow of Gdynia and again she had a new name, “Franciska” but in only a year she was back in British ownership after the Adam Steam Fishing Company Ltd of Fleetwood,Lancashire, who renamed he ‘Force’

In February 1940 after the outbreak of the Second World War the Trawler ‘Force’ after requisition found her self back in the hands of the Royal Navy. She was fitted with two 12 pounder Anti-Aircraft guns and sent out to sea.

The end came for the HM Trawler ‘Force’ of the coast of North East Norfolk 6 miles from Winterton Ness. On Friday 27th June 1941 HM Trawler ‘Force’ came under attack from German aircraft and was sunk. (52° 48” 55’ North, 001° 47” 48’ East)
