Talk:Hitomi
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
hitomi, all-lowercase, is the name hitomi uses as her byline, or professional name. Therefore, it is technically incorrect to refer to her as 'Hitomi'. It is correct to address her as Hitomi as part of her actual name, Furuya Hitomi (Furuya is her surname and Hitomi is her given name). However, when we are discussing her as an entertainer, we should refer to her as hitomi.
hitomi grew up in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture. But she was actually born in nearby Tochigi Prefecture, while her parents were visiting her grandparents. That is why even though hitomi grew up in Kawasaki and is to all intents and purposes a native daughter of Kanagawa, she is on the Tochigi register of births, not the Kawasaki register.
Shouldn't this be moved to "Hitomi (singer)"? Hitomi is a common girls' name. WhisperToMe 09:28, 28 July 2005 (UTC)
Reply: That is true, but at present such an action is not necessary, because there aren't any other personalities named Hitomi of comparable fame and stature, so it is unlikely that naming this article as just 'Hitomi' will cause confusion. The next most famous Hitomi-s in Japan, Hitomi Shimatani (also, incidentally, a singer contracted to Avex) and Hitomi Yaida (a singer too, but of the folk-rock genre, contracted to the indie Aozeora Records), prefers to use their full names as their byline.

[edit] Religion?
I noticed that hitomi is said to be Christian, any knowledge of what group? Also, can Ayumi Hamasaki's religion be verified (and it is, shouldn't it be moved to her page?)
[edit] How much of this is true?
First of all, i was wondering how much of the information posted on this page is even true?? I'm mainly talking about the part about Hamasaki and hitomi's friendship. The majority of it seems made-up and not too credible. Especially the part where it says hitomi & Hamasaki were "surfing the internet". Both of them have busy careers and I doubt they would have time to sit and just surf the internet together. Also, on Ayu's MY STORY tour, hitomi is no where credited like it says she was.
And also the part where it's said her and Yoko Yamaguchi are lesbians, I've never heard of that. And I've done research and can't even seem to find it ever mentioned. Also in my research, I've never found of a pop star named Yoko Yamaguchi. I'm not doubting she exists, I just can't seem to find any info. about her..
Then when you said hitomi copied Ayu, I wasn't able to find any sources to verify that.
In other words, whenever you post something like you have been, can you please add sources. I'll give you 2 weeks to respond, then I am going to have to remove this information & clean-up hitomi's page because this info. is not credible and its not verifiable. Thanks :) --Stzr3 20:52, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
I think the writer meant "Yuko Yamaguchi", a Japanese singer who was active in the late 1990s. --Kenzo505 20:25, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Support For A Clean-Up
I think it will be good to clean up hitomi's page, it has become a little untidy over the past few months, and obviously anything that is not verifiable should not be entered here.
For example, if hitomi had really had her sexuality called into question by the media, especially during the early stages of her career, most probably she would have been dropped or marginalised by Avex immediately, instead of continuing with her career. Also, while a 'friendship' with Ayumi Hamasaki does not sound completely implausible, since both are contracted to the same record label, it does seem rather unlikely, given each woman's different positions in the Japanese music industry.
I'm also not sure whether hitomi is really married, most Japanese stars often put off marriage until the end of their careers. Also, I don't see how she can be contracted to Avex and still be head of her own record label. These are points that has to be verified.
- I know hitomi is married and she does have 2 twins. I'll try to find a source though. But I also agree with a clean-up. I think everybody who actively contributes this page should get together and plan a major clean-up and only keep the useful and needed info. in and get rid of the rest. --Stzr3 01:39, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
- I think almost all the information of the article is false, and should be removed as soon as it's possible. Clouded 17:52, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

- This weekend I'm going to re-do this article from top to bottom with factual information. --Stzr3 09:55, 9 March 2006 (UTC)

I changed a few information such as album titles. Huma-Rhythm should be huma-rhythm, Traveler should be TRAVELER, By Myself should be by myself and so on... I changed those information, but someone changed it back. Please, keep it like that. Thank you.Alterna 19:57, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Kouhaku Uta Gassen
As far as I know, hitomi has made two confirmed appearances in Kouhaku Uta Gassen, in 2001 (she performed "Love 2000") and 2002 ("Samurai Drive"). She was supposed to perform "Japanese Girl" in 2005, but then she had throat infection and her place was given to somebody else.
I don't know whether this should be included, but I've also seen that she uses chopsticks in her left hand, while she plays bowling with her right hand, and uses a right-handed player's stance when playing baseball, so hitomi may be really ambidextrous, able to use both hands.
- Are there any sources that confirm hitomi had a throat infection and lost her place?? I'm not doubting it, I just want to include as much factual information in this article when I reconstruct it --Stzr3 19:27, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Overseas Support
From what I have gathered so far, hitomi's overseas following in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore is quite strong, possibly second only to Ayumi Hamasaki. The difference is that most of Ayu's newer fans are not very 'loyal' to her, and I read somewhere that Ayu lost a bit of support and suffered poor sales when she dyed her hair black and released 'Bold And Delicious' which was different in style to her previous work. hitomi on the other hand seems to have a smaller but far more solid fanbase who stick with her whatever image changes she goes through.
By the way, happy 30th birthday hitomi, hope she continues her career for five or six more years at least!
- I guess the sales of Startin'/Born To Be... will determine if that's true or not.

[edit] Ahh! It's so hard to find her songs online!
Ahh! It's so hard to find her songs online! There's so many singers with the name "hitomi"--69.230.169.35 01:47, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
