Hitoshi Ashinano

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hitoshi Ashinano (芦奈野ひとし Ashinano Hitoshi?) is a mangaka born on April 25, 1963 in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. His works include his debut Yokohama Kaidashi Kikō (for which he won the Afternoon Four Seasons Award), a series which ran for almost twelve years in Kodansha's monthly anthology Afternoon, and Position, which ran in the now defunct Afternoon Season Zōkan and later in Bessatsu Morning. [1] He has also been known to create dōjinshi under the name "suke".[citation needed]

His manga is characterised by minimal use of screentone, with shadow effects instead achieved with hand-drawn hatching, which gives scenes a pale, whitish appearance.[citation needed] His work also usually has a rather laid-back, nostalgic feel with undertones of mystery; there are frequent stretches with little or no dialogue.[citation needed]

Prior to his debut, Ashinano worked as an assistant to manga artist Kosuke Fujishima.[2]
